This is the first piece of a collection of short, tonal pieces which comprise the first series of my Pieces From A Distant Land. Tonal directions established in this piece foreshadow avenues of exploration in later pieces of Series I and following works which I describe as "extended tonality". Aside from an underlying neo-romantic and cantabile expression, the "extended tonality" increasingly develops in a process whereby legacy tonality and 20th century dissonance meld in a seemingly unlikely yet satisfying way.
